Wildflowers Devlog: Week 06
Introduction:
Hey players! Thadeu here and today I'm the one in charge of the devlog, did you miss us? :)
These last weeks has been crazy to our personal lives but the project is still going and I'm here today to give you an update.
🎨 Art - Guilherme "Atari Boy" Neves
Please welcome our true protagonist: VIOLA!
She will be our fearless adventurer on this magic and tricky world of Wildflowers! Our artist AtariBoy is working on the main animations for her and some special ones like the magic skills and death.
There is some challenges about do topdown character, like for example the perspective, because the perspective is kind "purposely wrong"
Also one thing I changed was the amount of frames per walk animation, my first try was doing 4 frames, following Game Boy limitation, but since we don't need to follow it, I made it more smooth with 8 frames, here
And this is a kind of subject we have a conversation almost every meeting, where is the line beetween
"hey let's make it remind old school games" x "Hey we NEED to make it using the limitation of old school games", and I know this isn't something only our studio have, I saw that in other projects, and the answer is always "depends" there is no "right" or "wrong" answer for that, it's more about what kind of style is YOUR game.
and well, one thing we decided for our project is: we are doing a top down rpg game zelda like, but we don't need to follow the same limitations as the Game Boy
🕹️ Gameplay - Thadeu Alonso
Hey players! Last week I worked in the game new camera system and it’s not finished yet but the idea is to have a camera that follows the player inside an area and is limited by the map bounds. And when the player goes out of the current map, it will have a transition like the old Zelda games. Today I don’t have a good visual for you but I’ll bring more interesting things on the next devlogs.
We are also testing a new tool for the game… but I’ll talk more about this in the future.

🎶 Music - Thiago Velasquez
Hey there guys! Just passing by to let u know that we do have a lot of work ahead to bring u the best.
In our weekly meeting we discussed the Project has a whole and I just decided that every little thing, I really do mean EVERY LITTLE THING will have it’s own soundtrack .
I want to do something totally different from “Joten the nightmare florest”. To do that I will think of music as another pixel to add in all you see while playing. Music will become a parto f the whole experience.
Been searching for different VSTs to have more sound to work on and been listening to a lot of Theatre Music .
Be ready for what I’m working for you guys this time.
