Wildflowers Devlog: Week 07
Wildflowers Devlog: Week 07
Introduction:
Hey players, welcome to another devlog of Wildflowers! This week we are doing a BIG change in the project: we are going to develop the game on Godot!
So… why? Well, when Unity announced that runtime fee install and the game dev community went crazy, we decided to try new engines available and Godot was the one that got more attention. We heard of Godot before but never tested so we decided to create a small game either godot to check it out. This game is Jotem (link), our first game as a team. It’s a small but charming one that we used as a learning project and the result was great! We loved the engine, a lot of things were easier to do than Unity, it’s more artist friendly and it’s super lightweight.
Then we started Wildflowers on top of a previous Unity project that we had… but that itch of going back to Godot was always there.
Then the universe sent us a sign: BRACKEYS WAS BACK WITH GODOT!
For those who don’t know Brackeys is one of the biggest Unity tutorial YouTubers around and was the very contact with game development for a lot of people (me included) that has stopped making videos around 2021. But he’s back now and it’s going to focus on teaching Godot.
So with that in mind we decided to try it out again and recreate the game in Godot. I know, pretty crazy :)
This was 2 weeks ago and it’s being amazing to work again with this engine. We are having a lot of progress and already catching up where we were in Unity.
We’ll need to learn new things moving to Godot but it’s being an amazing time to re-discover some ways of making games and Wildflowers and the next games will definitely be better because of that.

What's up! So I'm still thinking about the art style for the game, and to be honest with you, I think in this point it shouldn't be a problem anymore haha ops
But! Let me show you some cool stuffs i've done, like for example the attack animation
The base idea for the character powers is: "she can control the energy" so the hit animation is a Energy Sword that she can create with her hands,
The other habilities will be following the same concept
I'm thinking if it's necessary add a Left attack animation, because one thing bothers me, the fact there is in range who don't have the same attack as the others, the northwest, and this hapens because I mirror the attack from right to the left.
